Season 36: All we know so far

It will start on September 29.

Bart’s Birthday” (35ABF15)

This episode is the Season Premiere, which will of course air on September 29.

Bart celebrates the most shocking birthday party of his entire life — one that might just change everyone in Springfield forever.”

In the episode, Bart turns 10.

It was written by Jessica Conrad and directed by Rob Oliver. It was showran by Matt Selman and Michael Price.

It guest stars Conan O’Brien as himself, Danny DeVito as Herb Powell, John Cena, Tom Hanks, Joel McHale, and several Major League Baseball players.

The Yellow Lotus” (35ABF08)

This is the second episode, and it’ll air on October 6.

“The Simpsons encounter death on vacation at a high-end resort.”

It was written by Loni Steele Sosthand and directed by Rob Oliver. It was showran by Al Jean.

Originally “The Beautiful Shame” had this production code. However, in January of 2024 “The Yellow Lotus” script was read with this code, while “The Beautiful Shame” was postponed.

Mike Reiss and his wife Denise will appear as cameos in the background in a flashback.

Desperately Seeking Lisa” (35ABF18)

This is the third episode,  and according to the EIDR, it will air on October 20.

“Marge’s self-image in the town that everyone thinks she’s a good person is at stake when Homer and Marge have to respond to a kidnapping and extortion situation.”

The kidnappers have not yet been decided on, but they’re thinking of Jimbo and Shauna.

It was written by Tim Long.

Shoddy Heat” (35ABF16)

This is the fourth episode,  and according to the EIDR, it will air on October 27.

It was written by Jeff Westbrook and directed by Gabriel DeFrancesco. It was showran by Al Jean.

Treehouse of Horror XXXV” (35ABF13)

This is the fifth episode,  and according to the EIDR, it will air on November 3.

Giant monsters created by political rage threaten to tear the town apart, a Victorian Mr. Burns is jump-scared on Thanksgiving by the ghosts of his abused workers, and Homer bonds with a pair of extra-terrestrial jeans in an unforgettable stop-motion adventure that can only be called… Denim.

The opening segment, made by Jorge R. Gutierrez and called Cottage of Terror, is super Mexican and Jorge R. Gutierrez put in some characters from a Guillermo del Toro movie.

The first segment looks at how divided our country is — in this case, literal red versus blue monsters in a “kind of ‘Pacific Rim‘ style pool”, it talks about how American love partisan politics, and how they’re becoming World-destroying kaijus.

Denim is animated by Seth Green and John Harvatine IV from Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, but only the talking pants are animated in stop-motion.

A recording of the audience screaming from the San Diego Comic-Con 2024 will be used.

The episode was written by Matt Selman, Dan Vebber and Rob LaZebnik and directed by Timothy Bailey. It was co-showran by Rob LaZebnik.

Ladies Night” (35ABF17)

This is the sixth episode,  and according to the EIDR, it will air on November 10.

The episode was written by Christine Nagle.

Treehouse of Horror Presents: Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes” (35ABF14)

This is the seventh episode,  and according to the EIDR, it will air on November 24.

“A tattooed man at a mysterious night circus transports Lisa into three strange stories from the innocent 1950s, the chilling retro-present, and a brutalist future where prestige TV rules the world.”

It’s based on Ray Bradbury‘s short stories.

The episode was written by Jessica Conrad.

It guest stars Andy Serkis, which will introduce the stories like Illustrated Man did in “Something Wicked This Way Comes”.

Disney+ Specials (35ABF19-22)

Details below.

The Beautiful Shame” (Unknown production code – possibly 36ABF01/36ABF03/36ABF04/36ABF05)

Originally “The Beautiful Shame” had the production code 35ABF08. However, in January of 2024 “The Yellow Lotus” script was read with this code, while “The Beautiful Shame” was postponed.

Marge and Homer and Moe and Maya” (Unknown production code – possibly 36ABF01/36ABF03/36ABF04/36ABF05)

The episode was written and showran by Al Jean.

Work on the episode began before the 2023 WGA and the SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Unknown title (36ABF01)

The episode was written by Loni Steele Sosthand. It was co-showran by Michael Price.

The Man Who Flew Too Much” (36ABF02)

The episode was written and showran by Al Jean.

Unknown title (36ABF03)

The episode was written by Nick Dahan.

Unknown title (36ABF04)

The episode was written by Rob LaZebnik and Johnny LaZebnik.

Unknown title (36ABF05)

Nothing is known about this episode.

The Last Man Expanding” (36ABF06)

The episode was written by J. Stewart Burns. It was showran by Al Jean.

Treehouse of Horror XXXVI“(36ABF??)

The episode was showrun by Michael Price.

It’s part of Season 37 and will air on Fall 2025.


Disney+ Specials

A set of three Disney+ exclusive specials will air starting December 17, 2024 and will continue during 2025.

The episode order is split between the normal episodes and the specials.

O C’mon All Ye Faithful” (35ABF21 and 35ABF22)

It’ll air on December 17, 2024.

It’s a double-sized Christmas themed, sweet, emotional, funny episode.

The episode was written by Carolyn Omine and directed by Debbie Mahan and Matthew Faughnan.

The Past and the Furious” (35ABF19)

Nothing is known about this episode.

Yellow Planet” (35ABF20)

Nature documentary style episode in which the characters are animals.

The episode was written by J. Stewart Burns.

Note:

One episode is based on female driven SNL-like sketches. In a scene, Homer‘s reluctance to purchase feminine hygiene products for Marge, so the store employees sing a big number to shame him.


Upcoming plots

The first several episodes are detours through sci-fi and horror.

In one episode, Grampa reveals his secret past as a 1980s-era private detective.

In one episode, Lisa has a blazing misadventure in the dark world of Capital City’s downtown art scene.

One of the first episodes will be a sequel of sorts to “22 Short Films About Springfield” – with a twist.

One episode in the first half of the season will be dedicated to Ned Flanders reflecting on the deaths of Maude Flanders and Edna Krabappel, because it’s “never too late to emotionally address a past trauma”.

One episode will reference the court room scene from the film Anatomy of a Fall.


Further details

There are not plans of another cannon halloween episodes for now.

Susie Essman will guest star. with Matt Selman having an idea for Larry David but is sure he’ll decline.

Matt Selman wants to do a Bluey couch gag in response to the Bluey opening parody.

Michael Price will show run Treehouse of Horror XXXVI.
