Homer’s running late for Valentine’s…and so is EA!

Jiminy Jillikers!
Today we finally got our Valentine’s event, well, mini-event. It started today, two days prior to the big event, and ends on the 17th, 3 days after the big event.

The questline starts off with Lisa preparing to send Valentine’s cards to some humanist and environmentalist causes, and then – to Fallout Boy. Hmm…

Anyway, all the Valentine’s items are back – and this year, no dreaded Wheel of Friendship! – which means that all the items that were available JUST last year in the Wheel of Friendship have not been made available again. This event’s basically 2013 with 2014’s buildings and characters and this year’s new decorations and costume.

Keep him in the Clash of Clones area where nobody goes except to collect cash and XP.

EA have also been kind and given us the long-awaited Fallout Boy costume, or “Sidekick” costume for Milhouse. And, we’ve got a cute teddy bear called Sir Love-A Lot unlocked to place in our town as a decoration – FREE on the day.

EA also have another V-Day surprise… the real Fallout Boy!

You can read all about the event here. That’s it for now! Happy early Valentine’s Day!

P.S. The fact that we’ve had mini-events like Stonecutters Black Market Sale and Valentine’s suggests EA might have a big ‘un up their sleeves…

Throwback Thursday: It’s Double Trouble… “Homie the Clown”

So Krusty is not Homer’s secret persona, then…

20 years ago to this day, we saw Homer set off to clown college and becomes a clown impersonator. Unfortunately, the mob think Homer’s Krusty…and things get a little out-of-hand.

I heard somewhere that Krusty was originally to be Homer’s secret persona, but I don’t think that plan kinda worked out – especially since it’s blatantly not him in the shorts…which we move onto now, as today, we’re celebrating 26 years since Bart and Lisa went to see a Space Mutants movie in an incongruously empty theater.

The old man at the back is only surprised at the fact he’s not the only one watching this – Ahem.

Also on this date three years ago, three things happened. Lisa found a new love interest in a weird kid who wears a thick jumper all the time and Homer tried his hand at watershoes, two people finished watching 86 hours and 37 minutes of The Simpsons and John Severin, the comic artist who part-worked on story Two Tickets to Heck died.

Other mentionables include on this date in 1980, the actress and guest star Christina Ricci was born, later going onto play Erin in “Summer of 3 Ft. 2” and be interviewed in UK network Sky1’s 20-year celebratory documentaries in 2010; and in 2008, the Writers Guild of America strike, which resulted in Season 19 being shortened, ended.

And that’s it for now! See ya next Throwback Thursday!

Pharrell invites 2.8m

It appears Springfield’s proposed new anthem wasn’t as popular as they thought…and we…and FOX.
FOX stupidly decided to air The Simpsons against ratings powerhouse the Grammys last night (which itself was down), which attracted an average of 24.82 million over its 3 hours, leading the show to bring in its second-lowest ever audience, ahead of the 2.69m-pulling “Diggs” of Season 25, attracting 2.78 million (18-49: 1.2/3), down 0.7m (2.85m; 18-49: 1.2/3) from the rating logged in yesterday’s unofficial report.

The night on FOX was down in general, with Brooklyn Nine-Nine logging the only audience number normal for its run at a 20k-down 2.59m, Family Guy down to 2.81m and Bob’s Burgers down to 1.94m. All the other networks were clever and aired encore programming, logging similar ratings. And it’s not usual that Family Guy beats Simpsons.

So, here’s how the lowest ever The Simpsons ratings table is looking:

1 DIGGS MARCH 9 2014 2.69M
2 WALKING BIG & TALL FEBRUARY 8 2015 2.78M
3 THE YELLOW BADGE OF COWARDGE MAY 18 2014 3.28M
4 THE MUSK WHO FELL TO EARTH JANUARY 25 2015 3.29M
5 WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN BART’S EXPECTING APRIL 27 2014 3.45M
= COVERCRAFT NOVEMBER 23 2014 3.45M

That’s it for now! Hope next Sunday it won’t be so gloomy! Gone are the days where the table above would have been filled with 5m and 6m.

Who is EA’s cheap(-ish) replacement for a Valentine’s event? They are, they are!

That’s right, as you may have guessed from the title, it appears EA might not be bothering with Valentine’s Day this year and have treated us to the Stonecutters – back for one week only!
Black Market Panel
EA have given us a welcome return to many of the Numbers – including Number 36 – Krusty’s costume, which is free, but only has one quest if you don’t want to fork out 140 Donuts for the Stonecutter Lodge – which unlocks all of his other jobs.

Number 51 is also back, having a brief return from last Halloween also, for 100 Donuts. Number 12 and Number 14, that’s Lenny & Carl, cost 50 Donuts, with Arnie Pye’s Number 67 on for 60. Homer’s Number 908 is also back, free with the Stonecutter Lodge questline.

The Stonecutter Daycare Center costs a measly $250k for you players with millions of cash – but as it’s unlocked at Level 5 – those all the way down there will be heavily disappointed. The Abandoned Store is back for 30 Donuts, and so is the All Seeing Eye for 100, the Stonecutter Table for 150 and the… why not just pop over to the article itself to see what else has come back?!

Number 36 is off promoting corn-sumerism in my town.

However, this is only WAVE 1, with 13 items. Waves 2 and 3 are set to spring up over the weekend and into next week, so Homer will be happy to let you prize open your wallets and fork out for some jaunty goodness – if you happened to miss the event last June.

When you log on, you are greeted with a message from Homer, Lisa and Number 1, detailing how the Stonecutters rigged the Super Bowl.

And that it for now – see you this weekend when Wave Two is coming – hopefully the Sea Captain is ready and bracing!

Throwback Thursday: “Bart’s Little Fantasy”

February 5, 1989 saw the Simpsons have a role-reversal and Bart, Lisa and Maggie became the adults, ordering little Homer and Marge about – but that wasn’t quite how it went.

“We’re the Kids and You’re the Parents!”

It turns out that was just Bart’s Little Fantasy after Bart and Lisa disobeyed their parents’ orders to clean up the rumpus room, and so Bart was sent out to mow the lawn as a punishment.

Isn’t that what every kid dreams of – ordering their own parents about?! Well, they do that anyway nowadays.

And on this day in 1995, some else of “Bart’s” was first shown – his Comet.

Everyone in Flanders’ shelter…except Flanders…

Also on this day in 1927, the late Lee Miskin, who served as an animation timer on two episodes, was born. Christopher Guest, who voiced Nigel Tufnel, was born on this day in 1948. The youngest-ever voice actor on The Simpsons, voicing Charlie the orphan at age 9, Jordan Nagai, was born on this day in 2000. And finally, this day in 2004 saw Bart and Lisa deliver the slogan for their new TV show in the now-defunct UK comic The Best of The Simpsons, issue #8.

That’s it for this Throwback Thursday, and we’ll be throwing back even more next week!

Throwback Thursday: “Bart the Hero”

January 29, 1989 was the date Mr. Chupo and his candy store first appeared on the Tracy Ullman screen, and were to be never seen in any Simpsons media ever again. And it was him and his candy store who were in trouble, as a bandit was robbing the store, when Bart walked in wanting something to treat himself with, and tripped the bandit up when he tried to walk out with the stereotypical bag of swag. Bart was then offered a reward of $10,000, but decided it would be better to be paid in candy bars as a reward.

The robbery in action, although Bart seems to have put a stop to things in “Bart the Hero”.

Some more Simpsons media also came about on this date, with January 29, 2006 playing host to the episode “We’re on the Road to D’oh-where”, where Homer’s trip to Vegas is called off due to him having to take Bart to a behavioral modification camp, although things grow a little bond-shaped, as Marge becomes a prescription drug seller. And 2012 saw “Moe Goes from Rags to Riches” as the story of his bar rag is told, and how it survived many eras, once as part of a tapestry.

P.S. The Candy Store bandit was to later appear again in the couch gag for “Flaming Moe’s“.

Also on this date, Louie Pérez, who played the closing credits of “Thank God It’s Doomsday”, was born in 1953; Steve Sax, who voiced himself in the episode “Homer at the Bat”, was born in 1960; Colin Cooper, who has served as a voiceover recordist for every episode since “Bart the Genius”, was born in 1973; and finally, Sara Gilbert who voiced Laura Powers for two episodes (“New Kid on the Block” and “Marge on the Lam”), was born on this date in 1975.

That’s it for now! Until next Throwback Thursday…

Elon Musk Taps 3.3m

3.3m saw Elon Musk display a hacked game of Tapped Out on his computer.
A disappointing night for The Simpsons last night, with “The Musk Who Fell to Earth” only receiving 3.29 million viewers at 8pm, a 1.4/4 18-49 rating/share, the least-watched show in its timeslot, clearly suffering the brunt from the last episode, “Bart’s New Friend”‘s clash with the Golden Globes 2 weeks ago, which only got 4.28m and was down over 6m from its previous episode of 10.6m of “The Man Who Came to Be Dinner”.

This is now the lowest rated episode of this season, bumping “Covercraft”, with 3.45m, to second place.

Official ratings on Tuesday adjusted the overnight rating down from 3.40m to 3.29m.

That’s it for now! (Source: TV By the Numbers)

Throwback Thursday: “And Maggie Makes Three”

It’s been 20 years since we were told the story of Maggie’s birth, and how Homer juggled jobs with a low-paid job at the bowling alley and his the never-ending loop of getting fired and re-hired at the power plant. January 22, 1995 was the day of “And Maggie Makes Three”

It’s also been 20 years since this heart-warming moment appeared on our screens:

And so Homer decided to, instead of being reminded he can’t quite his job at the plant again, fill up the plaque Burns installed with photos of Maggie, rendering Maggie unforgettable.

P.S. Even though his workstation is filled with photos of Maggie he seems to forget her every so often nowadays, frequently missing her out and constantly talking about his two kids.

P.S.S. So, how often has Homer quit his job at the power plant even after Burns installed the plaque telling him he’ll never quit or leave again?

Whatever.

Also today, Jim Jarmusch, who guest-starred as himself in “Any Given Sundance”, was born on this day in 1953. DJ Jazzy Jeff, who worked as producer, drum programmer, keyboardist and a disk jockey on “Deep, Deep Trouble”, a song he co-wrote with Matt Groening for The Simpsons Sing the Blues was also born on this day in 1965. And sadly, on this day in 2012, Dick Tufeld, who guest-starred as Robot B-9 in “Mayored to the Mob” and “Milhouse Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, died aged 82.

Well, make sure to return next Thursday to see who and what crops up as we throwback to whichever year we want!

That’s it for now!

Willie’s slave laboring – technically – in a new tie-in!

And, here we go, our first tie-in post of this blog! An episode tie-in for Tapped Out for the episode “The Musk Who Fell To Earth“, set to air in the States on Sunday, has just been released about an hour and a half ago – and on a Wednesday! Usually tie-ins come out on a Thursday.

Now, down to brass tacks, and the questline opens with Homer thinking he’s watching some fat guy on the TV, but it turns out to be his own reflection, as the power’s been out. It then 100moves onto Lisa organizing a mob and a committee to try to change Mr. Burns’ mind – who’s set on a “VIP access” to his power.

Hey, Dad, come quick! Mr. Burns still has power! – Lisa
Literally or figuratively? – Homer
Don’t answer, just get me my angry mob pants. – Homer
You lost your angry mob pants during yesterday’s angry mob. – Lisa
Then get me my church pants. I’m usually pretty angry there too. – Homer

You then get a prompt to purchase the Manual Power Generator, only $2000, which allows you to unlock Slave Labor Willie, a new costume for Willie which opens up a whole new questline – but his first task is to power the Manual Power Generator for 24 hours. Ironic how his costume is called “Slave Labor Willie” yet he isn’t forced into it. Whatever.

His 4h “Subsist on Gruel” task is unlocked later in his questline.

There’s three new premium decorations as well, with the Red Electric Car, the Yellow Electric Car and the Blue Electric car, costing 35, 40 and 45 Donuts respectively.

Some new info as well – the Friends screen graphical glitch has been fixed and the Red Brick Wall is back to normal size but there’s no news on the others I reported!

All this is available until until January 28, 2015 at 8am (GMT)! For more information and to read (some of) the questline, check out our wiki page!

Sunny with a Chance of Isolated Non-Existence

What is Queen Helvetica up to? Has she become the evil prince from Frozen or something?! It appears there’s a major issue in Tapped Out at the moment with characters, buildings and decorations disappearing. I haven’t personally experienced anything like this (apart from during Clash of Clones where I never received a Recycled Wall for a prize and EA said they’d put it in my Inventory and they hadn’t) so it appears to just be certain players.

You…!
Some of the issues include characters sent on tasks never appearing again, including in the Town Hall census and the Character Locator icon, buildings becoming available for purchase again in the Store, “$” signs appearing over non-existent buildings, buildings not earning rewards, tasks of certain lengths of time becoming locked, buildings becoming transparent after The Castle of Equalia was placed and graphical glitches appearing in the Friends menu. It also appears to be maybe something to do with corrupted downloads and game saves. EA have recently been overhauling folder structures within the DLC files (downloadable content) and compacting them, so maybe code has been messed up there. Another reported cause may be the changes in item sizes, like the Red Brick Wall.

There’s a big forum on EA Answers here if you wanna sound off to those in charge. If you want to make a complaint straight to EA, click here but login with your Origin account to get somewhere.

Researching this I found that TSTO Addicts recommend trying to clear the area where the glitches are occurring most frequently.

In the meantime, don’t fret. EA’s probably on it.

Well, this wasn’t something they promised in the poem during the Christmas takedown, was it?

And that’s it for this Glitch Patrol! Sorry it’s a bit succinct, but there’s really nothing else we can report about this major glitch, there’s no fix yet. See you next time something’s up in the world of Tapped Out!

(But we always like to credit our sources, so thanks to TSTOTopix, TSTO Forum and Reddit)
