A few people have asked how they can help support the editors of Wikisimpsons. We editors get no money whatsoever for our contributions to the wiki. We do all of this as a hobby, free of charge. This includes the hours of work we put in to make the wiki as complete as it is. Therefore, we have set up a couple of ways for our readers and fans to support us.

I (Solar Dragon) have been against accepting donations for years now. It’s been brought up a couple of times in the past but I’ve shot it down for a couple of reasons. The major reason behind being against it is splitting the money between the active contributors and how we’d go about doing this. But this is something we’ve mostly worked out now.

Anyway, the ways to support us are:

Patreon

Patreon is a membership platform where people can subscribe to donate money on a monthly basis. As of now, we have no plans for any rewards for donating to us via Patreon, but there could be some sort of rewards in future. Suggestions for ways to make our Patreon better, rewards we could offer etc. will be welcome.

PayPal

We have set up a PayPal.me link so you can donate directly to our Wikisimpsons PayPal account. You can donate any amount and leave notes on donating too.

We are not expecting anyone to donate or not, nobody should feel that they have to. This is completely optional and Wikisimpsons will be running as normal whether we get any money or not. We will also not be shoving this down anyone’s throats (like a certain extremely well known wiki does…). Ads currently support the servers and we get enough money to keep them going via ads, so this will be an optional thing for you to say thank you to the contributors.

We have multiple active users who work on all parts of the wiki, from writing up about new episodes, to creating huge, detailed pages on Tapped Out updates, to working on the comic articles and all other aspects of the show and franchise. All of us do this free of charge so we will be grateful for any donation of any size.

“Thank You, Come Again!” – Apu Isn’t Going Anywhere

The Simpsons showrunner and executive producer Al Jean has confirmed that Apu Nahasapeemapetilon isn’t going anywhere and the show is keeping the character.

Apu drew a lot of criticism recently when last year, comedian Hari Kondabolu released a documentary, The Problem with Apu, going over the problems with Apu and the negative stereotypes he brought with him. After this, television producer Adi Shankar started a script contest which he hoped would be made into an episode of The Simpsons to subvert Apu’s tropes and write him out in a clever way or evolve him as a character. Then, in late October, Shankar told IndieWire in an article that he had heard from multiple sources that Apu was being dropped altogether. Other articles then incorrectly referred to Shankar as a producer for The Simpsons, resulting in Al Jean stating on Twitter that Shankar was not a producer for the show.

On November 1st, 2018, Al Jean shared a link to an article by The Guardian by Indian-American writer Bhaskar Sunkara. The article spoke about the positive aspects of Apu and his influence on people.

In the replies to the tweet, Al Jean confirmed that Apu isn’t going anywhere.

New Kidrobot Simpsons Figures!

Kidrobot have recently released new Simpsons figures! The Moe’s Tavern Mini Figure Series features patrons (and the Love Tester) of Moe’s Tavern. Each blind box costs $9.99.


The Simpsons CRAP-TACULAR! Keychain Series features 18 different keyrings. If you collect all eighteen before the season 30 premiere and send a photo of them to Kidrobot, you will get “something crap-tacular”. Each blind box costs $5.99.

Simpsons Comics To Come To an End After 245 Issues

Bongo Comics series Simpsons Comics is to come to an end after 245 issues.

The 245th issue will be released in October 2018. Over recent years, multiple series from Bongo Comics have been discontinued, or reduced to a limited release on the Simpsons Store app. The future of Bongo Comics itself is also not known, with most series from them on hiatus or cancelled.

It is currently unknown if there will be a successor to Simpsons Comics or nor.

Stephen Hawking Dies Aged 76

World renowned physicist and The Simpsons guest star Stephen Hawking has died at the age of 76.

Stephen Hawking made several appearances on the show, voicing himself via his voice synthesizer. He also made an appearance in The Simpsons: Tapped Out as a playable character.

In 1963, Hawking was only given a few years to live due to his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which gradually paralyzed him over years and could only communicate via a voice synthesizer. He passed away peacefully in his home in Cambridge on March 14th.

Hawking first guest starred on the show in the season 10 episode “They Saved Lisa’s Brain“. His daughter, Lucy Hawking, knew one of the scriptwriters for The Simpsons who was interested in writing an episode involving Stephen Hawking, and she convinced him to guest star.

Disney to Acquire Rights to The Simpsons

Disney have announced that they plan to buy a majority of 21st Century Fox‘s assets. A press release today confirmed that Disney would acquire 21st Century Fox for approximately $52.4 billion in stock. Among these acquisitions are the X-Men, Avatar and The Simpsons.

It is currently unknown what impact, if any, this deal will have on The Simpsons.


The Simpsons “predicted” this in the 1998 episode “When You Dish Upon a Star“. A sign outside the Fox Studios (pictured) said “20th Century Fox: A Division of Wald Disney Co”.

We’ll update with more information as the story develops and as we learn more about what this will mean for the future of the show.
