Want to help support the Wikisimpsons editors? Now you can!

A few people have asked how they can help support the editors of Wikisimpsons. We editors get no money whatsoever for our contributions to the wiki. We do all of this as a hobby, free of charge. This includes the hours of work we put in to make the wiki as complete as it is. Therefore, we have set up a couple of ways for our readers and fans to support us.

I (Solar Dragon) have been against accepting donations for years now. It’s been brought up a couple of times in the past but I’ve shot it down for a couple of reasons. The major reason behind being against it is splitting the money between the active contributors and how we’d go about doing this. But this is something we’ve mostly worked out now.

Anyway, the ways to support us are:

Patreon

Patreon is a membership platform where people can subscribe to donate money on a monthly basis. As of now, we have no plans for any rewards for donating to us via Patreon, but there could be some sort of rewards in future. Suggestions for ways to make our Patreon better, rewards we could offer etc. will be welcome.

The Patreon page is called Wikisimpsons, link here.

PayPal

We have set up a PayPal.me link so you can donate directly to our Wikisimpsons PayPal account. You can donate any amount and leave notes on donating too.

Our PayPal.me link is https://www.paypal.me/simpsonswiki.

We are not expecting anyone to donate or not, nobody should feel that they have to. This is completely optional and Wikisimpsons will be running as normal whether we get any money or not. We will also not be shoving this down anyone’s throats (like a certain extremely well known wiki does…). Ads currently support the servers and we get enough money to keep them going via ads, so this will be an optional thing for you to say thank you to the contributors.

We have multiple active users who work on all parts of the wiki, from writing up about new episodes, to creating huge, detailed pages on Tapped Out updates, to working on the comic articles and all other aspects of the show and franchise. All of us do this free of charge so we will be grateful for any donation of any size.

30 Years of the World’s Most Beloved Family!

Today is April 19, 2017. It’s a special day. 30 years ago (April 19, 1987) from today, a father and a mother debuted on TV along with their three children. These parents appeared saying ‘good night’ to their children and they did that as bad as possible, though they didn’t notice it.

These parents were no other than Homer and Marge Simpson. Their children (Bart, Lisa and Maggie) also debuted on TV.

The Debut

It’s April 19, 1987. FOX is airing the third episode of The Tracey Ullman Show. During the episode, an animated short is shown.

“Good Night”

Good Night” airs and the Simpson family debutes on TV. No one could have imagined that 30 years after, that family would still be on TV. The airing of that short marked a milestone in the history of television.

30 years ago, a legend was born but, how did it all really start? Just keep reading…

The Birth of a (Yellow) Legend

In 1987, Matt Groening waits in the lobby of TV producer James L. Brooks‘ office. He has been asked an idea for a series of one-minute shorts that will be used to separate segments on The Tracey Ullman Show.

Adapting his comic strip Life in Hell seems the best option but, at the last moment, Groening is afraid of throwing his beloved rabbit Binky into the bonfire of television failure, so he thinks of an emergency solution and draws it on a yellow sheet of paper. He draws an american family. His own family: Homer, the father; Marge, the mother; and his sisters Lisa and Maggie. Finally, he renames himself Bart, an anagram of “Brat”. The Simpsons are born.

Two years after, the family got its own TV show, which is still on air.

Present and Future

The Simpsons family keeps on airing new episodes of its TV show on Sundays. Their show is currently on the final stages of its 28th season with 615 aired episodes (to date). The show was renewed for two more seasons (29th and 30th) in November 4, 2016. With more than 600 episodes aired, the show is still an icon all over the globe.

And remember,
Stay tuned for 30 years more!

Wikisimpsons: The Ten Year Wiki!

Wikisimpsons

Today it’s September 24, 2015. It’s a special day for Wikisimpsons. It was founded 10 years ago today! This post is a post to celebrate the wiki’s 10th Anniversary.

To celebrate, we’ve painted the site pink and launched our brand new site layout! Additionally, no advertisements will be displayed today to thank all of our editors and viewers for making Wikisimpsons the greatest Simpsons resource on the internet.

A Brief Summary of the Wiki’s History…
  • 2005
  • Creation of the Wiki
  • The wiki was created on September 24, 2005 by PostBagBoy on Wikia. He never edited here, apart from one edit on his user page stating how amazed he felt that the wiki he had created had turned out to be successful (in 2007).
  • 2010
  • ShoutWiki
  • Wikia Staff announced that a new skin was on its way. Admins of Wikisimpsons signed up for beta testing with high expectations. The skin turned out to be a huge disappointment and not fully compatible with Wikisimpsons’ article layouts. Admins of Wikisimpsons argued with the staff and Smiley12 and Solar Dragon were blocked as a result. Wikisimpsons eventually moved to ShoutWiki and the “old Wikisimpsons” became “Simpsons Wiki”.
  • Simpsons Fanon
  • Simpsons Fanon was created.
  • The Springfield Shopper
  • The Springfield Shopper became the third member of the Simpsons Wiki Network.
  • 2011
  • Independence
  • Thanks to Jake, Wikisimpsons moved from ShoutWiki to a new server and got a new domain, “simpsonswiki.net”.
  • 2013
  • Server move
  • In late July–early August, Wikisimpsons was moved to a newer server and was re-located at “simpsonswiki.com” as apposed to the previous “.net”.
  • 2014
  • Answers
  • In February 17, the wiki’s question-answer site, Wikisimpsons Answers, was launched.
  • 2015
  • The Springfield Shopper
  • In January 17, the wiki’s news blog, The Springfield Shopper, was launched.
A Big Wiki

Wikisimpsons has more than 32,300 articles; 703,300 edits and more than 25,800 registered users. Wikisimpsons has 5 active administrators, who do lots of janitorial work every day.

The wiki also has a couple of active “Rollbacks”, who help the admins and the wiki. Then there are the “trusted” users, who do a lot of work in order to make the wiki look decent.

In the last years, Wikisimpsons has had an increase in the number of visitors due to lots of reasons, one of them being the pages dedicated to The Simpsons: Tapped Out. The wiki continues growing every day.

Scheduled Maintenance – May 26/27

homer-computer-dohThis is a notice to all of our users that we will be conducting site maintenance at some point between 5/26 at 6:00 PM EDT and 5/27 at 6:00 AM EDT. This maintenance will affect all Wikisimpsons sites, including the English wiki, Svenska Wikisimpsons, The Springfield Shopper, and Wikisimpsons Answers. We do not expect the maintenance to take the entirety of the maintenance window, and the site will likely only be offline for about 45 minutes.

In preparation for this maintenance, a full backup of the sites will be taken and editing Wikisimpsons will be disabled from 5:30 PM EDT until maintenance is complete. Full function of all sites will be restored no later than 6:00 AM EDT on May 27th.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but rest assured that we only take down the site when absolutely necessary.

Thank you, as always, for being a member of the Wikisimpsons community!

Welcome to The Springfield Shopper!

Welcome new readers!

A few months ago, we at Wikisimpsons came up with an idea for a news site for all the latest The Simpsons news. This has finally happened now and here it is!

The idea of this news blog is to inform readers about anything and everything to do with the latest The Simpsons news, including the latest episode news, the recent updates from The Simpsons: Tapped Out, the newest comic news and any upcoming merchandise releases. However, I’m sure there will be lots of other things we’ll report.

If you are a Wikisimpsons user and want to become a news editor, comment below, leave a message on my talk page or email me at solardragon@simpsonswiki.com. The more experience you have on Wikisimpsons, the more likely I’ll be to accept your request.

Thank you for reading!
